The following pages contain coverage of Day 2 of the Veterans for Peace Veterans Day exercise. The pictures, video and audio were taken
mid-day on Saturday the 12th of November 2005.
Once again, a grotesque display of defeatism and moral inversion billed as an event to “Honor the Troops, Not the War”
Today’s events were once again designed to enhance the maudlin effects and convince the onlookers that the War is unsustainable /
unsupportable. The exaggerated number of crosses remained. The ‘Grim Milestone’ T-shirts were distributed freely. The Coffins were laid out.
The opener featured a small group of ‘Gold Star’ families, complete with large placards of their dead family members. This was followed
by a procession of flag-drapped coffins to the Santa Monica Veterans Memorial, located in Palisades park alongside Ocean Ave, just south of Arizona St. Once there, a selection of speakers (including none other than
Ron Kovic himself) spoke against the War and against the Bush Administration. Ex-Marine Jeff Key played Taps (badly). The Procession then continued north to Wilshira Ave, then returned to the Santa Monica Pier.
Read on for more details, imagery, and video & audio files of the principal speakers. If you can stomache it.
