Preliminary report, posted 060501-1845, many updates to follow

As posted at LGF when I first returned from the March / rally:

...In short:

People - I estimate peak crowd at 75-90k, massed on the SW grounds of City Hall. They filled the half-block at the center of this map, bounded by 1st St to the South, Spring St to the NW, Main St to the SE. This is an area of only ~140M wide x 90M deep. The crowd was centered on Spring St to the SW of the City Hall bldg, where the speakers were set up. Except for that strip of Spring St., I was able to move throughout the crowd at will (ie crowd density was moderate).

Area / Boycott - The barrio south of City Hall was a ghosttown. All the side streetswere empty, all the stores shuttered (literally).

ANSWER was a fart in the wind. The march was never in their control, and kicked off from teh intersection of Olympic and Broadway nearly 40mins before the slated time. Guess the folks down there didn't wan't to miss out on the seating at City Hall. I spotted very few ANSWER-provided placards, and those were advocating Amnesty. Found a few of their withered vegan minions by spotting a Ho Chi Minh hat in the crowd.

Speakers - big list, no major pols except Democrat Illegal Immigracion sellout Romero.
CAIR asshole spoke, got some cheers for his 'solidarity' remarks. Saw only one apparent muslim group in the mass, flying the black banner of Jihad. Todos restante speakers en espanol solamente.

Flags - Overwhelmingly US, overwhelmingly flown correctly. Only a few mutilated / disrespected. Many Mexican flags. Scattering of Salvadoran, Honduras y otros. Mas o menos diez porcient. Couple Che and Aztlan flags. Couple 'blendings' of US and Mexican flags.
Worst of all, some jackass has ordered the lowering to half-mast of the US, POW-MIA, CA and City of Los Angeles flags on City Hall grounds and the adjacent attached office bldg. Outrageous. I asked an LAPD sergeant on the City Hall steps if he knew why, he had no idea.

Signage - various, all the Immigracion standards. Many pics to follow.

The crowd was scattered and scattering, throughout. No way to have a solid count.

Outbound, I swung past MacArthur Park and the crowd was scattered and still arriving. Just saw on the news that they almost immediately proceded with their march West on Wilshire, from the park.

MSM moment - I was about 6' from Anderson <strike>Cooper</strike> Vanderbilt for a time, and MAY appear in the background of some of his trademark 'filming himself as he walks' segments.

Grimly humorous moment - passing through a narrow aisle in the crowd, a hispanic family squeezing past in opposite direction. Their little pre-quinceaños daughter saw me and blurted some 'Vive la Raza!' crapola to my (gringo) face. El Senora de familia had the good grace to look a little embarassed about it.
